About Me

I’m Robert Bahedry. Based in Los Angeles, CA., I am a certified Breathwork Meditation practitioner in an ancient somatic, conscious breathing technique.

I stumbled upon the practice in 2009 at a time in my life when I was in search of a healing modality that would complement my burgeoning yoga practice. I had just completed my yoga teacher training only to discover that, alas, it was not my calling.

That experience brought me to Breathwork and in an instant, completely changed my life.

I’ve been teaching since 2010 and believe that creating a sacred, safe, yet lighthearted environment in my sessions is a very powerful 'ice-breaker.'  Healing, after all, is often not the most comfortable of experiences so laughter and levity are an essential part of participating in my classes.

A NOTE FROM ROBERT

“Let That Shit Go!”

Right about now you're probably asking: “how does Breathwork work?” Simply put, Breathwork is a self-healing modality, but here’s the science (of course there’s science here and not just ‘woo woo’ stuff).

The technique I work with is a dynamic, active, three-part breathing meditation. The three parts consist of two inhales and one exhale. Here’s the science, i.e., how Breathwork, works.

The two inhales flood the bloodstream with oxygen. Within about a minute, when all that oxygen reaches the brain, it triggers the pituitary gland and hypothalamus to flood the body with a cocktail of hormones - chemicals, that is. The increased levels of chemical energy released into the body results in a somatic - a physical and often emotional - experience.

One such chemical is endorphins, the body’s natural morphine equivalent. So, the first thing it does is quieten the mind - the Buddha called it the ‘Monkey Mind - slowing it down naturally to a ‘Theta’ brainwave state. That’s the deep meditative state between wakefulness (Alpha) and deep sleep (Delta). Your brain naturally takes a chill pill!

As these chemicals continue to move through the rest of the body, they activate the other six Chakras - energy centers - in the body (part of the ‘ductless gland’ system) to release some of their chemicals. All this energy in turn raises the body’s vibrational frequency.

Wait, what? I know. It’s kind of wild! Your physical body responds by vibrating gently at first; it starts with the extremities - hands, feet, back of the head and neck - and because we do this Breathwork (i.e., the 3-part breath) for 21 minutes, the whole body is vibrating after about 6-7 minutes. Physically, you’ll be buzzing and pulsating all over.

What next? (You do ask a lot of questions but that’s really great) … Due to all this increased vibration, the body responds physically and emotionally in certain ways. It can get intense. Your hands may cramp up. You may feel hot or cold. You may feel discomfort in the arms, legs, lower back, mid back, and jaw. That’s usually an indication of areas of stuck and stagnant energy. Another ‘feature’ of Breathwork is the stirring up of past, long-repressed (stuffed & buried) emotions. All this increased vibration will likely bring that $h!t to the surface, giving you an opportunity to ‘let that $h!t go’ and heal.

Like I said at the start, Breathwork is a self-healing modality, working with your own healing, creative energy to return your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energetic bodies to their natural state of wellbeing. You’ve just got to get out of your own way!

And that’s how Breathwork, works.
